Conservatives fear Trump will cut immigration deal
Conservatives are growing worried that President Trump and GOP leaders will strike a slimmed-down immigration deal during the lame-duck session if Democrats win back the House in November.

This represents a shift in strategy from when House Democrats last controlled the chamber. In 2009, they passed cap-and-trade legislation, which subsequently died in the Democratic-controlled Senate. The game plan for next year, House Democrats say, is more incremental steps and hearings.

Five takeaways from Cruz, O'Rourke's debate showdown
SAN ANTONIO — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) clashed in a heated second debate on a cold and bitter night in San Antonio, with less than three weeks out from the midterms.

O’Rourke went on the attack right at the start of the debate, framing Cruz as “dishonest” and someone who has abandoned Texas to run for president. But Cruz continued to aggressively go after the Democratic congressman’s record, which he says doesn’t line up with deep-red Texas.

The contentious showdown again highlighted the starkest differences between the candidates, particularly on immigration and health care.
