For the first time on Friday federal prosecutors in New York said President Trump directed his former lawyer Michael Cohen to make two illegal payments during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Prosecutors in New York recommended Cohen receive “substantial” prison time for several federal crimes, despite his cooperation with ongoing law enforcement investigations, including special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.
