JUST ANNOUNCED

Trump to China -- 'Come on, maaaan':

The Trump administration just said it is going ahead with actions to crack down on Chinese trade practices by June 30. I.e.: Tariffs on Chinese tech exports believed to contain stolen American intellectual property. The numbers: Tariffs will be levied on $50 billion of tech goods imported from China.

TIMING:

A few days ago, President Trump's trade representatives gave Chinese officials a list of trade demands. Like: Asking China's government to slash its trade deficit with the U.S. by $200 billion by the end of 2020.

WHEN TO EXPECT THE LIST OF AFFECTED PRODUCTS:

June 15

KEEP IN MIND:

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross is visiting China this weekend for trade negotiations.

LATEST WITH THE MUELLER INVESTIGATION

Trump accuses Mueller of 2018 meddling -- OK, everyone, who had 'May 29' for the day Trump would start this attack? That's 'May-2-9':

This morning, President Trump attacked the special counsel investigation, accusing Mueller's team of meddling in this fall's midterm elections. He tweeted: "The 13 Angry Democrats (plus people who worked 8 years for Obama) working on the rigged Russia Witch Hunt, will be MEDDLING with the mid-term elections, especially now that Republicans (stay tough!) are taking the lead in Polls. There was no Collusion, except by the Democrats!" http://bit.ly/2IRFyk1

I kid you not, he tweeted this 20 minutes later:

President Trump said this morning that he should focus his attention on running the United States, not the Russia investigation. The tweet: "Sorry, I've got to start focusing my energy on North Korea Nuclear, bad Trade Deals, VA Choice, the Economy, rebuilding the Military, and so much more, and not on the Rigged Russia Witch Hunt that should be investigating Clinton/Russia/FBI/Justice/Obama/Comey/Lynch etc." http://bit.ly/2L4W5Oj

All together now: We agree!

KEEP IN MIND:

In less than an hour this morning, the president tweeted three times about the Russia investigation, followed by one tweet about focusing his attention on diplomacy and policy.

*Trump digs around in a bag of tricks* -- Aha!:

Via The Hill's Amie ParnesPresident Trump has used his skills to discredit his political opponents -- think: "low-energy Jeb" Bush, "Lyin' Ted" Cruz, "Crooked Hillary" Clinton and "nut job" James Comey. But special counsel Robert Mueller is a bigger challenge: Mueller is a war hero and legendary FBI man, and Trump's advisers have been telling him to cooperate with Mueller. New strategy: Though there hasn't been an insulting nickname yet, Trump has started going toe-to-toe with the Mueller investigation in recent months. What this means -- it's an interesting read: http://bit.ly/2kBKw6h

New detail — Pompeo does CPR on the summit:

Via The Hill’s Jordan Fabian, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet this week with a top North Korean official in New York. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump will also huddle with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Washington on June 7, five days before the proposed summit date. What to read from this: The flurry of activity is the latest indication Trump is scrambling to save the North Korean summit, which he scrapped in a letter to Kim just last week. http://bit.ly/2H0h3vt

PERSPECTIVES:

Against: Author Dave Anderson argues that President Trump lost his leverage in the negotiations: http://bit.ly/2sj5V8n

For: America First Policies' Alex Titus argues that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is not gaining leverage and hails Trump's "maximum pressure" campaign. http://bit.ly/2JgRtaw

HAPPENING SOON

OK don’t panic, everything will be fine but... you can’t get Starbucks this afternoon:

Starbucks is closing 8,000 stores this afternoon for racial bias training. *In a painfully desperate plea* — where/when?!: Stores will close at either 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. in each time zone and will be closed for three hours. Why: Remember when a Starbucks manager called the police on two African-American men waiting for a friend? Details: https://usat.ly/2IWTs0e

LATER THIS MORNING -- ROSEANNE APOLOGIZES:

Roseanne Barr tweeted, "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste." http://bit.ly/2ITXA5x

OUCH:

Dictionary.com tweeted, “Bizarre is one word to describe Roseanne's comments about Valerie Jarrett, or you could use this one: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/racist" http://bit.ly/2kzk0ud
