Trump reacts to Roseanne, but I can guarantee it’s not what you’re guessing:
^It doesn’t matter what you’re guessing. I’m fairly confident it’s not that. |
|
|
President Trump finally spoke out about the controversy over Roseanne Barr’s tweet against former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett and ABC's decision to cancel her show. He tweeted: “Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?” http://bit.ly/2H158NL |
|
HOW THE WHITE HOUSE REACTED BEFORE TRUMP’S TWEET: |
The administration dodged questions about the controversy. When asked to respond, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders had said President Trump is focused on “bigger things.” http://bit.ly/2IYFUkR |
|
Behind-the-scenes -- welp, that unsurprisingly escalated quickly: |
CNN's Brian Stelter has a fascinating read on the inside story of how ABC decided to fire "Roseanne" star Roseanne Barr. "Tuesday happened to be the writing and producing staff's first day back at work for season two ... staffers were just beginning to arrive when the cancellation news hit at 10:48 a.m. Pacific." Full tick tock: https://cnnmon.ie/2kz2vtK |

REACTION FROM VALERIE JARRETT: |
Former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett said this should be used as a "teaching moment" for everyone. In her words: "I'm fine. I'm worried about all the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense." Watch Jarrett: http://bit.ly/2LGi3s2 |
|
NEW THIS MORNING -- ROSEANNE'S EXCUSE: |
Roseanne Barr said she was on the sleeping pill Ambien when she tweeted a racist remark. Her tweet, which has since been deleted: "It was 2 in the morning and I was Ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please." http://bit.ly/2kBEWjW |
|
REACTION FROM THE MAKER OF AMBIEN -- OUCH: |
|
|
OMG, PLEASE STOP TALKING: |
Roseanne Barr tweeted that she thought Jarrett was white, Saudi, Jewish and Persian. Read her tweets -- they're a little cringeworthy: http://bit.ly/2IVXuKt |
|
Why this story isn't going away anytime soon: |
Via The Hill's Niall Stanage, "the firestorm surrounding Barr does not appear likely to be quelled anytime soon -- and not only because the show had been a huge hit, attracting more than 18 million viewers for its March premiere. The show's eponymous lead character was a Trump supporter, a rare thing on the pop culture landscape." I.e.: Liberals and conservatives are both getting fired up over the controversy. http://bit.ly/2shXl9S |

KIM KARDASHIAN AT THE WHITE HOUSE TODAY | |
If Donald Trump can handle a meeting with this Kim, he can handle the other Kim: |
First reaction --> http://bit.ly/2IST7Qi Second reaction --> http://bit.ly/2sjJYpA Via Vanity Fair's Emily Jane Fox, reality star Kim Kardashian is meeting with President Trump at the White House this afternoon to discuss prison reform. Meeting agenda: "Kardashian plans to ask Trump to pardon a woman serving a life sentence without parole for a first-time drug offense." Lol -- depends on who owns KKW makeup: "White House staffers have joked about who will get to accompany her to the West Wing, and what they should wear for the occasion." http://bit.ly/2IU89FD |

Jeff Sessions privately thinks to himself, 'He didn't mean it.'
Narrator: 'He meant it.': |
This morning, President Trump said he regrets his decision to pick Jeff Sessions as attorney general. How it came up: Citing Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who said earlier on CBS that Trump "could have picked somebody else" to lead the Justice Department, the president responded, "I wish I did!" The frustration: Sessions's recusal from the Russia investigation after he took the job as attorney general. Why this is big: It's the latest sign of Trump's growing anger over the Russia investigation. http://bit.ly/2kBF3Mu |
|
OH BY THE WAY -- GOWDY DEFENDED THE FBI INVESTIGATION: |
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy defended the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, including the use of an informant to gather information on some campaign aides. In Gowdy's words: "I think you would want the FBI to find whether or not there was any validity to what those people were saying." Watch Gowdy's reasoning: http://bit.ly/2IZx6Q9 |
|
INTERESTING TIDBIT: |
Gowdy said he has never spoken to or met President Trump. How it came up: Gowdy was asked why Trump keeps accusing the FBI of placing an informant in his presidential campaign for political reasons. He said he had never discussed those issues with the president and had never met him. Watch: http://bit.ly/2H2z7VP |

A headline I hoped I'd never have to write again: |
President Trump tweeted about the crowd size of his event last night, blasting The New York Times for its estimate. He tweeted: "The Failing and Corrupt nytimes estimated the crowd last night at '1000 people,' when in fact it was many times that number -- and the arena was rockin'. This is the way they demean and disparage. They are very dishonest people who don't 'get' me, and never did!" http://bit.ly/2xsUxvx |
|
I seriously can't get enough of this story: |
Via The Associated Press, "Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, who had been reported shot and killed in the Ukrainian capital Tuesday, has shown up at a news conference very much alive." I'm sorry, what happened?: The Ukranian Security Service "faked Babchenko's death to catch those who were trying to kill him." How he acted in the press conference: He thanked everyone for mourning his death. http://bit.ly/2JmE4xE Video of the press conference: https://wapo.st/2L8eycK |
