Hoyer’s spot as Pelosi heir challenged by younger reps
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is facing rare new challenges to his leadership aspirations as Democrats eye a House takeover and a younger crop of lawmakers grows increasingly restless for changes atop the party.

Hoyer, who’s stood comfortably — if not contentedly — behind Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for the last 15 years, has long been viewed as the heir apparent if Pelosi were to retire. Yet the influx of newer members over recent cycles — combined with the lengthy leadership bottleneck — has only stoked the simmering frustrations of a younger generation of Democrats seeking a chance to climb into the leadership ranks.

Loss of Ryan hits hard for House Republicans
Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) decision to retire from Congress has set off more alarm bells for Republicans worried about whether they can hold the House in the midterm elections.

The ripple effects of Ryan’s announcement will not be clear for months. But in the early hours after the news broke, some Republicans framed the news as both the latest sign that Republicans are headed for the minority as well as a spark that could set off more GOP retirements.

    DAILY DOSE: Confidence & Humility

    Confidence & Humility

    By Tzvi Freeman

True confidence is best found in those who are truly humble.

Moses was the most humble of all men. Yet he had the confidence to stand before the mightiest dictator on earth and assert his demands. He had the confidence to stand before G‑d and listen without losing his composure. He had the confidence, when necessary, even to argue with G‑d.

Yet he considered himself to be truly nothing.

The confidence of Moses was not confidence in his own self. He had no self. He was but an agent of Above. Above there is infinite power.

Self-confidence is limited, at best. But if you trust in the One who has sent you to be here and do what you need to do—that confidence knows no bounds.
