TALK OF THE MORNING

It's officially Tuesday in Singapore...
I.e.: the North Korea summit is TODAY:

After months of taunting and threats, President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are set to make history in a few hours. How the world is reacting: Crossing their fingers it will go smoothly. What to expect: http://bit.ly/2HGhEmb

When Kim and Trump will meet: 9 p.m. EDT tonight, which is 9 a.m. Tuesday in Singapore. https://on.mktw.net/2JPp0c6

Five things to watch:

  1. Does Trump stay on script?
  2. Does Kim lay on the charm?
  3. What exactly is on the table?
  4. Who is influencing Trump?
  5. What happens next?

Details and context for each: http://bit.ly/2HEGYZK

After the one-on-one meeting: There will be a second meeting with President Trump, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and a few advisers. Who's attending from the U.S.: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, national security adviser John Bolton and chief of staff John Kelly. (Via Fox's Fin Gomez) http://bit.ly/2sOl6Xu

Update -- how long Trump will stay in Singapore: President Trump was expected to be in Singapore until Wednesday, but the White House just announced he will leave on Tuesday evening. Why: The nuclear talks are moving "more quickly than expected."

Happening at 4 a.m. EDT tomorrow: President Trump is expected to hold a media availability before departing. http://bit.ly/2JrWfTr

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS:

New goal for 2018 -- get my own small army of back-suited men: "Kim Jong Un taking a leisurely stroll across Singapore's Jubilee Bridge with a small army of black-suited men." Photo: http://bit.ly/2HExcqC

NEWS THIS A.M.

Breaking -- this sounds like most peoples' unused gym memberships ;)

Via The Hill's Lydia Wheeler, the Supreme Court upheld Ohio's "use it or lose it" practice of cleaning up voter rolls. I.e.: States can remove people from the voter rolls if they don't vote. How that works: If someone hasn't voted in two years, they are sent a confirmation notice. If they don't respond and don't vote in the next two years, they have to re-register. http://bit.ly/2y07tcF

THIS WEEK IN CONGRESS

I bet lawmakers are thrilled for the quiet week (lol):

Via The Hill's Jordain Carney and Juliegrace Brufke, Congress is walking into what may be the busiest news week of 2018. Think: North Korea, Group of Seven fallout and an immigration showdown -- just to name a few. http://bit.ly/2sOLVdU

TOP OF MIND ON CAPITOL HILL:

House Republican leadership has until tomorrow to create the text of a compromise immigration bill. I.e.: Border security and protections for young undocumented immigrants. What happens if leadership can't deliver by tomorrow -- or lawmakers don't like the text: More lawmakers will likely sign a petition to force an immigration vote. http://bit.ly/2sOLVdU

WHAT ELSE CONGRESS IS UP TO THIS WEEK:

Trade: "Lawmakers will regroup in Washington on Monday amid the fallout from Trump's growing war of words with longtime U.S. allies."

Op-ed on the G-7 summit from the Atlantic Council's James J. Coyle: http://bit.ly/2JJFti4

Defense policy: "The Senate is poised to wrap up its work on the [National Defense Authorization Act] this week, but first it needs to break a stalemate on amendments."

North Korea summit: Lawmakers are keeping a close eye on the Trump–Kim summit in Singapore. Some Republicans are skeptical the meeting will accomplish anything.

FBI: "The Justice Department's inspector general is expected to release on Thursday a long-awaited report into the FBI's handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server."

Opioids: The House is expected to vote on more than 20 opioid crisis bills this week.

OUT AND ABOUT

I think the Caps may need more Gatorade after this weekend than after a playoff game:

The Washington Capitals have been seen around the city celebrating in hilarious ways. Think: Tattoos, celebrating on the roof on Café Milano, keg stands out of the cup and swimming in the fountain in Georgetown (it's not for swimming). The spottings are incredible: http://bit.ly/2HEN5xe

And to combine both worlds: Here's Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner posing with the Caps: http://bit.ly/2JxGElG

SO, WHEN'S THE PARADE?:

The victory parade is happening tomorrow at 11 a.m. along the National Mall. Route map, road closures, timing and everything else to know: https://wapo.st/2LFXuLt

FUN FACT:

Every winning player gets to spend a day with the Stanley Cup. You won't be surprised to hear there are some weird stories to come from that tradition. Enjoy: https://nydn.us/2MbZbS9

Oh hey, Mel:

Yesterday, first lady Melania Trump attended the Ford's Theatre annual gala. Why this is newsy: Melania hasn't been seen much in public since her surgery last month. https://politi.co/2l1sGJP

NOTABLE TWEETS

Oh.:

Wait, are you kidding me?:

IHOP, which is changing to IHOB, had its big reveal on the name change. My guesses: The "b" stood for bacon, breakfast or brunch. Nope, it's now: International House of Burgers. Watch the company's 15-second reveal: http://bit.ly/2sLCUTc

Local news is best news:

Supreme Court rules in favor of Ohio 'voter purge'
The Supreme Court on Monday upheld Ohio’s "use it or lose it" practice of cleaning up its voter rolls.

In a 5-4 decision, the court’s majority said the practice, known as the “Supplemental Process,” does not violate the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which bar states from removing the names of people from the voter rolls for failing to vote.
