Dems say they’ll sue to keep Collins on ballot
Democrats are threatening to take the GOP to court to keep Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), who’s been charged with insider trading, on the November ballot.

New York Democrats believe they have a better shot of flipping the ruby-red, Buffalo-area seat if the embattled congressman’s name stays on the ballot, and want to keep Republicans from replacing him with a potentially less-toxic candidate.

TALK OF THE MORNING

‘OK
yes, here’s another President Trump tweet ... Omarosa ... thank you John Kelly —

'Wait, did he just call her a dog?’

This morning, President Trump fired back at former adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman for the accusations she made in her new book. http://bit.ly/2MKDCIh

Trump tweeted: “When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!” http://bit.ly/2vL6edI

Ahh, August recess: Reaction from Capitol Hill reporter Matt Laslo: “This is exactly why [Speaker Paul Ryan] didn’t think twice about giving House members August off — he didn’t want vulnerable Republicans to have to respond to questions about the president calling a woman a dog.” http://bit.ly/2w5kq0B

It’s Tuesday — the Senate returns from recess tomorrow. I’m Cate Martel with a quick recap of the morning and what’s coming up. Send comments, story ideas and events for our radar to cmartel@thehill.com@CateMartel and on Facebook.

NEWS THIS MORNING

Spotted — Omarosa using lighter fluid on the news cycle:

Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman released a tape to CBS News that appears to show Trump administration staffers admitting that President Trump used the N-word and discussing the political fallout. Keep in mind: CBS hasn’t been able to independently verify the tape, but the audio does indicate that a tape of Trump using a racial slur may exist. The full storyhttps://cbsn.ws/2w5eSDu

OMAROSA IS NOT BACKING DOWN

Via The Hill’s Niall StanageOmarosa Manigault Newman’s book “is deeply critical of Trump, suggesting, among other charges, that he is racist and not mentally fit to be president.” And her fury does not appear to be cooling down: http://bit.ly/2KTLkOp

The next Democratic strategy for campaigning

Via The Hill’s Amie Parnes and Mike Lillis, Democrats are ready to ditch former first lady Michelle Obama’s “When they go low, we go high” mantra for a more aggressive message. Think: “When they go low, I say hit back harder.” How that could play out?: http://bit.ly/2nD4y1J
