House cancels Friday votes due to Hurricane Florence
House GOP leaders on Thursday said they are canceling Friday votes as members brace for Hurricane Florence.

“Members are advised that—upon passage of the Conference Report to Accompany H.R.5895—votes are no longer expected in the House tomorrow, Friday, September 14,” the House majority leader's office wrote in an email.

Voters in New York head to the polls in the Democratic primary on Thursday to determine whether Gov. Andrew Cuomo gets a chance at a third term in November.

Cuomo’s fight against former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon has attracted headlines for months and underlined divisions among New York Democrats over whether the state’s governor should be pulled further to the left.

Trump raises political stakes as hurricane looms
President Trump is raising the political stakes as the Carolinas brace for a direct hit from Hurricane Florence.

Trump has asserted that federal agencies are well-prepared for the huge impending storm, which is expected to make landfall anytime between Thursday and Saturday. 

He has also sought to defend his handling of Hurricane Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico a year ago.

That has sparked outrage from Democrats and other critics.

Trump skeptics argue that he will pay a political price if the expectations that he has set are not met.
