Conservative Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R) has defeated former Gov. Phil Bredesen in Tennessee, likely quashing Democrats’ chances of taking control of the Senate.
She will fill the seat vacated by Sen. Bob Corker’s (R-Tenn.) retirement.
GOP businessman Mike Braun has defeated Sen. Joe Donnelly (D) in Indiana, greatly increasing the odds that Republicans will keep or extend their majority in the Senate.
President Trump had made taking out Donnelly and several other Democratic senators his top priority, and had visited Indiana the day before the election.
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) won reelection in New Jersey’s Senate race, a huge relief for Democrats as he faced a tougher-than-expected challenge in the deep blue state.
Menendez defeated Republican Bob Hugin, a former pharmaceutical company CEO, in race that became surprisingly tight over the summer.
