View in your browser     Hopes fade as shutdown clock ticks down Hopes in Congress for a breakthrough deal on immigration that would avert a potential government shutdown are fading with only a few hours left before federal funding expires at midnight. The Senate is scheduled to vote at 10 p.m. on a four-week spending stopgap passed Thursday by the House but it is expected to fall well short of the 60 votes needed to advance. So far, only three Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.) and Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), have said they will vote yes. Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) told reporters after meeting with President Trump at the White House that “a good number of disagreements” remain, dashing hopes of a quick solution to the impasse.
