Hollywood Democrats are pouring money into the midterm elections, infusing races with cash in a last-ditch push to flip control of Congress.

Some of the country's most famous faces — including Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, Alec Baldwin and Paul Rudd — have been splashing their signatures on big-money checks for House and Senate candidates in recent months.

LATEST WITH KHASHOGGI KILLING

Getting traction -- this photo breaks my heart:

© Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

King Salman of Saudi Arabia and his son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi's family to "share their deepest condolences and sympathy." Keep in mind: The crown prince is suspected of being involved in the death of Khashoggi.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry tweeted several shots from the photo-op: http://bit.ly/2PfbQIq

I can't imagine how Khashoggi's son must feel -- some context: Khashoggi's son Salah has been banned from leaving Saudi Arabia because of his father's criticism of the government. http://bit.ly/2CBdL2X

"Look at his face. It's important to note that Salah has been banned for over a year from leaving the Kingdom, he has not been able to mourn with his siblings who are US citizens." (Tweet from journalist Yashar Ali)  http://bit.ly/2SeHUKO

This morning -- the Saudi crown prince got a standing ovation:

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is suspected to have been involved with Khashoggi's killing, made an unannounced appeared at an investment conference in Riyadh and received a standing ovation. Did he say anything?: He didn't speak during the conference, just made an appearance. https://nyti.ms/2JaqISJ

Also today -- Turkey lays out its findings:

Via The New York Times's Richard Pérez-Peña, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described journalist Jamal Khashoggi's killing as a "premeditated murder" by the Saudis. The gist from Erdoğan: "It is clear that this savage murder did not happen at the drop of a dime but was a planned affair." https://nyti.ms/2PheWeO

Erdoğan elaborated while explaining the results of his country's investigation: "Why was the 15-man Saudi team in Istanbul on the day of the murder? On whose orders? We are seeking answers. Why was the consulate not opened to investigators immediately? When the murder was so clear, why were there so many different statements given by Saudis? Why has the body of someone, the killing of whom has been officially admitted, not been found? Who is the local collaborator who disposed of Khashoggi's body? Saudi must answer all these questions." https://nyti.ms/2PheWeO

THIS A.M. -- PENCE WEIGHS IN:

During an event at The Washington Post, Vice President Pence vowed the U.S. would respond to the "brutal murder" of Jamal Khashoggi, calling it an "assault on a free and independent press." Pence also said: "We're going to follow the facts," Pence said. "We're going to demand that those responsible are held accountable." http://bit.ly/2OH7KJF

It's Tuesday -- the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers kicks off tonight at 8:09 p.m.! LET'S. GO. NEWS THIS MORNING

Best wishes, Justice O'Connor:

Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced that she has been diagnosed with dementia and will be withdrawing from public life. From her letter: "Since many people have asked about my current status and activities, I want to be open about these changes, and while I am still able, share some personal thoughts." http://bit.ly/2PhskzH

Read her letter released by the court: http://bit.ly/2Sau9gk

TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY

Hey, it worked two years ago…:

Via The Hill's Niall Stanage, "President Trump is hitting the same fiery rhetorical notes that helped get him elected in 2016 -- and it might just be working, with the midterm elections two weeks away." http://bit.ly/2ECdpfq

The tone of his rallies lately -- this should sound familiar: "At rallies, Trump has blasted the Democratic Party as a 'mob' and 'the party of crime'; has suggested, without evidence, that members of a migrant caravan coming toward the United States from Honduras are being paid; and has called for more money for his proposed southern border wall."

ALSO DURING THE RALLY -- GOOOOD TIMES:

During President Trump's rally for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Trump recounted his feud with Cruz during the 2016 election. In Trump's words: "You know we had our little difficulties, right? But actually if you remember, the beginning, it was a love fest." Watch: http://bit.ly/2JdiB84

To the left, to the left:

This morning, the nonpartisan election forecaster the Cook Political Report shifted eight House races toward Democrats and two toward Republicans. http://bit.ly/2yv7Dqq

Graphic of the changes: http://bit.ly/2yY58wb

IN OTHER NEWS

Found in George Soros's mailbox:

An explosive device was found in the mailbox of liberal billionaire philanthropist George Soros's mailbox yesterday in northern Westchester County of New York. From an official: The device did not explode on its own, but a law enforcement bomb squad detonated it as a precaution. Keep in mind: Soros, who was not home at the time, is often a target of right-wing groups. https://nyti.ms/2CBiUs8

NEW UPDATE FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT:

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the device had components of an actual bomb. The official said: "the components were there for an explosive device" and said it was "not a hoax device." http://bit.ly/2AoC4Qj

Call me Donald. Donald 'nationalist' Trump:

Last night, President Trump declared himself a "nationalist." The full quote: "You know what a globalist is? A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly, not caring about our country so much. And you know what, we can't have that. You know, they have a word. It sort of became old-fashioned. It's called a nationalist. And I say, 'Really, we're not supposed to use that word?' You know what I am? I'm a nationalist, OK? … Use that word." Watch: http://bit.ly/2OFnYCV
