| This morning, President Trump bashed Rep. Adam Schiff (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Trump tweeted: "Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped!" Who he was referring to: Former FBI Director James Comey; Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee; former CIA Director John Brennan; and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Christopher Coons (D-Del.) are introducing immigration legislation in an effort to reach a budget deal before the federal government's current funding runs out on Friday. What the deal would include: It would provide recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program an opportunity for citizenship while ordering a study to figure out what border security measures are needed. | Republican lawmakers fresh off their annual GOP legislative retreat will be confronting an all-too-familiar problem when they return to Washington on Monday: avoiding a government shutdown. http://bit.ly/2FLFEDY The likely plan: A six-week funding bill that would keep the government's lights on until March 23. Could we have another shutdown?: Yes, but it's unlikely. It is still unclear whether frustrated defense hawks will go along with the plan to pass a funding bill without a boost for the military. Later this week: House Democrats leave for their retreat Wednesday, so Congress is hoping to pass legislation tomorrow to keep the government open. |
