BREAKING NEWS OF THE MORNING

Travel-ban-away, Mr. President!:

How I imagine President Trump reacting to the news this morning

--> http://bit.ly/2yLe9vv ;)

The Supreme Court just upheld President Trump's travel ban on nationals from five Muslim-majority countries entering the United States. http://bit.ly/2IxbRQA

The decision in layman's terms: President Trump has the authority to make decisions over national security. The court didn't find enough racial or religious motivations to step in and block the ban. I.e.: We're not saying we agree with the ban, but legally our hands are tied.

^From the majority opinion: "A very John Roberts-ian line in his Supreme Court majority opinion upholding Trump's travel ban: 'We express no view on the soundness of the policy.' " http://bit.ly/2tFYMyK

The ruling: 5-4.

Upheld travel ban: Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil GorsuchI.e.: The conservatives on the court.

Wanted to strike down travel ban: Liberal Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The five countries: The latest ban includes nationals from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia and Yemen. Plus two more countries: Trump's ban also included North Korea and people affiliated with certain government agencies in Venezuela, but the courts did not raise objections to those two countries.

Read the opinion, if you're into that kinda thing: http://bit.ly/2tGfMVF

The paragraph that stands out in the opinion: http://bit.ly/2Ixf3vy

REACTIONS:

From President Trump -- Diet Cokes on me!: The president celebrated the decision. He tweeted: "SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN. Wow!" http://bit.ly/2IsUiRi

Tidbit -- What Trump's up to: Via CNN's Jeff Zeleny, President Trump is watching TV coverage of his victory. https://cnn.it/2txROg3

From one of the two sitting Muslim members of Congress: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said he is saddened by the decision. In Ellison's words: "Today's decision undermines the core value of religious tolerance on which America was founded. I am deeply disappointed that this ruling gives legitimacy to discrimination and Islamaphobia." Full reaction from Ellison: http://bit.ly/2Mp1aBF

Op-ed on why the decision was predictable: http://bit.ly/2tCyFZD

It's Tuesday. I'm Cate Martel with a quick recap of the morning and what's coming up. Send comments, story ideas and events for our radar to cmartel@thehill.com@CateMartel and on Facebook.

TALK OF THE MORNING -- (WELL, BEFORE THE TRAVEL BAN DECISION)

Free idea -- Let's all go to motorcycle week and see what HOG members think of this:

Harley-Davidson announced it is moving some of its production outside the United States to avoid the European Union's retaliatory tariffs. Why this is newsy: "Harley-Davidson's move is some of the most direct evidence yet that tit-for-tat trade fights between the United States and other countries have consequences for American companies. Harley-Davidson said it stood to lose as much as $100 million a year." https://cnnmon.ie/2KdcELS

This a.m. from the president -- 'I'm calling BS':

President Trump accused Harley-Davidson of using the new European Union tariffs as an "excuse" for moving production abroad. He tweeted: "Early this year Harley-Davidson said they would move much of their plant operations in Kansas City to Thailand. That was long before Tariffs were announced. Hence, they were just using Tariffs/Trade War as an excuse. Shows how unbalanced & unfair trade is, but we will fix it." http://bit.ly/2K91ZSp

WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH HARLEY-DAVIDSON?:

Via CNN Money's Nathaniel Meyersohn, "Americans are buying fewer motorcycles, people outside the United States are buying more, and Harley wants to build bikes closer to its international customers. But the tariffs probably hastened Harley's exit." The numbers: "Last quarter, Harley's sales in the United States fell 12%, but they grew 6.8% in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In Latin America, sales grew 7%." Full breakdown of Harley-Davidson's decision: https://cnnmon.ie/2tEkCmb

HOW THIS STORY IS ESCALATING A TRADE WAR:

Via The Hill's Alexander Bolton, "Harley-Davidson's announcement that it is moving some production overseas to avoid European tariffs coupled with triple-digit drops on Wall Street are raising pressure on lawmakers to do something about President Trump's trade war." How this could play out: http://bit.ly/2KpR1Ex

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH IN TRUMP'S TRADE WAR:

http://bit.ly/2Iu3NzJ

Speaker Ryan weighs in -- not a fan of the tariffs:

Via The Hill's Scott Wong, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) criticized President Trump's tariffs. He just told reporters: "I think tariffs are basically taxes. What ends up happening is you get escalating tariffs and end up raising taxes." http://bit.ly/2lzxvub

NEWS THIS MORNING

Mueller is moving on to ... *pause for game show intro* ... collusion

--> http://bit.ly/2tElIOV

Via Bloomberg's Chris Strohm and Shannon Pettypiece, special counsel Robert Mueller is preparing to focus his investigation on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Timing: A source told Bloomberg to expect conclusions and maybe even indictments in the fall. Once Mueller can wrap up the probe into potential obstruction of justice by the president, he will turn his full attention to collusion. Full story on what to expect: https://bloom.bg/2KpcL6C

I'll see you in court, sir:

Via The Washington Examiner's Diana Stancy Correll, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has filed a civil lawsuit against his neighbor who attacked him last fall. Back story: Paul's neighbor attacked him while he was doing yard work. Paul broke several ribs and later contracted pneumonia. His neighbor pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days in prison. https://washex.am/2Kpr0VA

FROM THE CIVIL SUIT:

From the attack, Paul has "increased likelihood of, and susceptibility to, injury and disease and ... he has been deprived of his enjoyment of life." https://washex.am/2Kpr0VA

Another Supreme Court ruling -- you display the pamphlets that you want to display:

Via The Hill's Lydia Wheeler, the Supreme Court rejected a California law that requires anti-abortion clinics to post information about where women can get procedures and contraception from the state. The ruling: 5-4. Details: http://bit.ly/2lAi7O7

Fantastic...:

Thomson Reuters released a new survey of the most dangerous countries for women. No. 1: India. No. 2: Afghanistan. No. 3: Syria. The only Western country: The United States at No. 10. Full survey: https://reut.rs/2KmPFdr
