NO LONGER HAPPENING TODAY

Fly away, little birdies:

Yesterday, President Trump abruptly disinvited the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles from the White House event previously scheduled for today. What sparked this: Some of the Eagles said they would not visit the White House because of their dislike of the president and his stance against protests during the national anthem. What the Eagles had been planning to do: Send a smaller delegation. http://bit.ly/2kTDXMx

Instead -- meet your cleverly crafted alternate programming today:

President Trump's schedule for today includes a 3 p.m. event today "in Celebration of America." Trump said Eagles fans are still invited to the White House, where the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus will perform. http://bit.ly/2kTDXMx

REACTION FROM THE NFL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION – SIGH:

The NFLPA released a statement. "Our union is disappointed in the decision by the White House to disinvite players from the Philadelphia Eagles from being recognized and celebrated by all Americans for their accomplishment." Read the full statement: http://bit.ly/2sFYSGg

TIDBIT – MELANIA WON'T ATTEND:

First lady Melania Trump will skip today's event, but will attend the president's Federal Emergency Management Agency hurricane briefing tomorrow. Keep in mind: Melania's public appearance yesterday was her first in 24 days after undergoing surgery. http://bit.ly/2JqQk0e

THIS A.M. – TRUMP TROLLS THE NFL:

The president tweeted that there's no "escaping to the locker rooms" when the national anthem plays today at the White House. Full tweets: http://bit.ly/2HlTo8N

THE EAGLES ARE NOT PLEASED WITH FOX NEWS EITHER:

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz criticized Fox News for using a photo of him praying before the national anthem in a segment about the protests. He tweeted: "This can't be serious... Praying before games with my teammates, well before the anthem, is being used for your propaganda?! Just sad, I feel like you guys should have to be better than this." http://bit.ly/2kOrI3B

^UPDATE -- FOX NEWS APOLOGIZES:

Christopher Wallace, executive producer of "Fox News @ Night" with Shannon Bream, said in a statement: "To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout regular or post-season last year. We apologize for the error." http://bit.ly/2JuTTCI

KEEP IN MIND:

No Philadelphia Eagles knelt during the national anthem during the 2017 season. http://bit.ly/2xJllYK

STEPPING BACK FROM THE DRAMA -- WHAT'S IMPORTANT HERE:
