WHAT'S ON EVERYONE'S MIND ON CAPITOL HILL

I bet you anything that Paul Ryan brought doughnuts -- lots of doughnuts -- for everyone:

Ryan: Yeah, I did that.

During a make-or-break moment for House Republicans on immigration today, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) tamped down a Republican insurrection -- at least temporarily. How: Republicans are going to try again to write a compromise bill to protect young undocumented immigrations known as Dreamers. What Ryan told reporters after: "The next step is to start putting pen to paper and get legislation to the floor." http://bit.ly/2Lwkxsa

What happened this morning: During a two-hour closed-door meeting in the basement of the Capitol, House leaders urged the party to give them more time to craft a compromise. I.e.: Don't sign a discharge petition to go against Speaker Ryan and force immigration votes. http://bit.ly/2Lwkxsa

What Ryan was risking this morning if his compromise plan failed -- or still does fail: "Some two-dozen centrist Republicans [have threatened] to buck leadership and move forward with their discharge petition, a move that would trigger a series of contentious immigration votes on the floor five months before the midterm elections." http://bit.ly/2JlU1Be

The catch: The new deadline appears to be June 12, putting leaders back on square one with just 5 days to get a deal that can carry 218 votes.

D.C. is buzzing today -- the Washington Capitals are playing in the Stanley Cup Final tonight and need one more game to win it all. I'm Cate Martel with a quick recap of the morning and what's coming up. Send comments, story ideas and events for our radar to cmartel@thehill.com@CateMartel and on Facebook.

WHAT'S ON EVERYONE'S MIND IN THE WHITE HOUSE

TraMUELLERde, nucWITCHlear weaHUNTpons, the ecoRUSSIAnomy...:

Did I miss anything?

This morning, President Trump tweeted his daily, "Russia is a witch hunt" frustrations. He tweeted: "Isn't it Ironic? Getting ready to go to the G-7 in Canada to fight for our country on Trade (we have the worst trade deals ever made), then off to Singapore to meet with North Korea & the Nuclear Problem...But back home we still have the 13 Angry Democrats pushing the Witch Hunt!" http://bit.ly/2JjtDvJ

ON REPORTS THAT TRUMP COULD SKIP THE G-7 SUMMIT TO PREPARE FOR THE NORTH KOREA MEETING:

White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said the president will attend the Group of Seven summit in Canada. "I saw some of those reports yesterday, we all kind of chuckled and laughed. He is going to the G-7. There is no plan to pull out of that," Gidley said. http://bit.ly/2kSfxmu

IN CONGRESS

Before everyone gets carried away with passing a bill limiting Trump on trade:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said the Senate would *not* pass a bill reining in President Trump's tariff authority. Keep in mind: Republican Sen. Bob Corker (Tenn.) is leading the bipartisan effort. What sparked this: Trump announced controversial steel and aluminum tariffs on the European Union, Canada and Mexico -- key trading allies. http://bit.ly/2JoztrD

GOP: SoOooOo, what's our Plan B here?:

Via The Hill's Melanie Zanona, congressional Republicans are working on a back-up plan if the GOP tax cuts don't help them in the midterms. The back-up: Touting the booming economy and a wide range of bills they have sent to Trump's desk. More on why the tax plan may not be their best selling point: http://bit.ly/2sMurhG

IN OTHER NEWS

We have a deal!:

This morning, the Commerce Department announced a deal to lift penalties on Chinese firm ZTE. Details: "The deal to revive ZTE, which violated U.S sanctions and is considered a national security threat by U.S. officials, comes after President Trump pledged to loosen restrictions that had effectively shut down the company." http://bit.ly/2sE9XIy

Op-ed on how President Trump throwing ZTE a lifeline is part of a broader China strategy: http://bit.ly/2M880MK

New -- Trump becomes a huuuuuge Vegas Golden Knights fan:

Washington Capitals player Devante Smith-Pelly said he plans to skip the traditional visit to the White House if his team wins the Stanley Cup. Why: His opposition to the president. In the playoffs: Smith-Pelly has had six goals and one assist in the playoffs this season. http://bit.ly/2JAOXMp

Oh look, someone else is trying to subpoena Trump -- good luck with this:

Via Yahoo Sports, NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick's legal team is trying to subpoena President Trump and Vice President PenceWhat Kaepernick hopes to accomplish: "A dive into the administration's political involvement with the NFL during Kaepernick's free agency and the league's handling of player protests." What would need to happen for Trump to actually be subpoenaed (a lot): https://yhoo.it/2Hrye9v

Some insight -- Rest in peace, Kate Spade:

This morning, the New York City medical examiner's office confirmed that fashion designer Kate Spade took her own life. http://bit.ly/2kUXdJt

FROM KATE SPADE'S HUSBAND:

Kate Spade's husband, Andy Spade, said she had been getting help for anxiety and depression for years, but her death was a "complete shock." https://cnn.it/2xPlVUN

How she sounded the night before: "Andy Spade said he had conversed with his wife the night before she was found dead in her Manhattan apartment and she 'sounded happy.' " http://bit.ly/2kUXdJt

From Andy Spade: "There was no indication and no warning that she would do this," he said. "It was a complete shock. And it clearly wasn't her. There were personal demons she was battling." http://bit.ly/2kUXdJt
