HAPPENING TODAY

Looots of immigration drama:

Look, I did it. Your turn, Congress!

House Republicans are trying to pass an immigration bill today. The two options: One bill is a compromise between conservatives and centrists. The other is a conservative alternative.

But didn't Trump sign an executive order yesterday to reunite families?: Yes, President Trump caved after negative images flooded the media and pressure, to reverse his policy of separating families caught crossing the border illegally. But he is still calling for broader immigration legislation that also includes funding for his border wall. http://bit.ly/2JZzwyr

How optimistic should we be about the bills passing?: Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said on Hill.TV's "Rising" this morning that he is "not optimistic. Meadows's reasoning: http://bit.ly/2lsu1Kd

BREAKING -- Melania flies to the U.S.-Mexico border: First lady Melania Trump is visiting the U.S.-Mexico border to meet immigrant children. http://bit.ly/2th16wZ

ALSO BREAKING-- Halting the charges: Via The Washington Post, "[The] Trump administration will stop prosecuting migrant parents who cross the border illegally with children, official says." https://wapo.st/2I9NUi3

THIS A.M.

Ever get that comforting feeling from a headline because it's familiar?:

President Trump renewed his call for the end to the Senate filibuster. Why: His frustration with his immigration agenda stalling. He tweeted: "What is the purpose of the House doing good immigration bills when you need 9 votes by Democrats in the Senate, and the Dems are only looking to Obstruct (which they feel is good for them in the Mid-Terms). Republicans must get rid of the stupid Filibuster Rule-it is killing you!" http://bit.ly/2tf4bgU

NEW POLL ON IMMIGRATION:

A new Gallup poll shows a record number of Americans say immigration is good for the country. The numbers: 75 percent said immigration is good for America; 19 percent said it's bad. Some context: The number who said immigration is a good thing rose 4 points since 2017. http://bit.ly/2I97n2n

THIS A.M. -- HEY, COMEY, HEY:

Via The Guardian, former FBI Director James Comey weighed in on the child separation. He said: "When you stare at children crying, being taken away from their mothers, it forces your eyes above statutes and numbers, to: 'What kind of people are we, for God's sakes?' That's a lifting of the national eyes that is powerful and potentially the kind of inflection point that I'm talking about. That's the kind of thing that awakens the giant." http://bit.ly/2trFL38

Robert Mueller's next fun task -- finding jurors who aren't following the investigation:

Via Politico's Darren Samuelsohn, special counsel Robert Mueller has filed a motion asking that potential jurors for Paul Manafort's trial fill out a questionnaire about their biases on the case because of the "widespread media attention." From one of Mueller's prosecutors: "Furthermore, the amount of publicity about this case is only likely to grow as the trial date approaches, and such publicity increases the possibility that jurors will form biases or pre-formed opinions that may prejudice one or both parties." https://politi.co/2K47Gxa

ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING

We have some intel on Intel:

Via CNBC's Sara Salinas, Intel's CEO and chairman of the board, Brian Krzanich, has stepped down after a "consensual relationship with an employee." Who will be Intel's CEO?: CFO Robert Swan will serve as the interim CEO. Why he had to step down: A company policy that he couldn't have a relationship with anyone who reports directly to him. https://cnb.cx/2thlm1c

Why leave out online sellers from all the sales tax fun?:

Via The Hill's Naomi Jagoda and Lydia Wheeler, the Supreme Court ruled that states are allowed to require certain out-of-state online retailers to collect sales tax. The ruling: 5-4. Back story: "The court overturned a 1992 court precedent barring states from requiring businesses that have no physical presence in the state to collect their sales taxes." http://bit.ly/2yvg9b9

THE MOST INTERESTING STORY I READ TODAY

I realize this shouldn't be my top takeaway, but I'm now craving Starbursts:

Via Eurasia Group President Ian BremmerPresident Trump tossed Starburst candies on the table in German Chancellor Angela Merkel's direction during a tense meeting and said, "Here, Angela. Don't say I never give you anything." Watch Bremmer describe how it went down -- I'm on the edge of my seat: http://bit.ly/2IcD4HR

Trump in his happy place:

President Trump held a campaign rally last night in Duluth, Minn.
