Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said on Sunday that President Trump needs to keep up "maximum" pressure on North Korea ahead of an unprecedented summit.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said in an interview broadcast early Sunday that she is “very worried” that North Korean leaders will take advantage of President Trump in an unprecedented summit, pointing to a “decimated” State Department.
"Nothing is being ruled out," deputy White House press secretary Raj Shah told ABC's Jonathan Karl on "This Week," when asked whether Kim could potentially meet Trump at the White House.
“When you're in a negotiation as complex as a North Korean nuclear program, and a situation that is volatile as the Korean peninsula, you need diplomats," Ben Rhodes told ABC's Jonathan Karl on "This Week."
Former United Nations ambassador Bill Richardson credited President Trump for accepting an offer to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying that, while the meeting is risky, Trump is "gambling for the right reason."
“I would, but I doubt it would have any chance of passing or, even if it passed, that we would have the votes to override the veto,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told CNN’s “State of the Union.”
"Canada is exempt. Mexico is exempt. Australia is exempt. I guarantee you, all of Europe is going to wind up being exempt," Economist Larry Kudlow said in the interview broadcast Sunday. "And I bet you our allies in Asia will wind up being exempt.
“I mean, it would be a tough go in a Republican primary. The Republican Party is the Trump party right now. But that's not to say it will stay that way.”
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) said she is not running for president, but refused to pledge to serve out a full six-year term in the Senate if reelected in 2018.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said in an interview on Sunday that the U.S. should not follow China's lead on criminal justice, hours after President Trump said he would consider the death penalty for drug dealers.
"I think you should be focused on what the policies are. He's using these vulgarities in the context of a campaign rally, and obviously, there were a lot of funny moments on that rally.”
