The Hill 12:30 Report

TALK OF THE MORNING
Donald Trump's ghosts of administration staffers past:
Several former aides to the president: former campaign manager Corey Lewandowki, former deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka, former senior White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman and the cherry on top — Anthony Scaramucci, who had a 10-day stint as White House communications director. / Source: Igor Bobic / Twitter

I foresee this in an upcoming book pitch:
During an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," outgoing aide Omarosa Manigault Newman said that she observed things in the White House during her tenure that made her uncomfortable and that upset her. What she said: "I'm not going to expand on it because I still have to go back and work with these individuals, but when I have a chance to tell my story, Michael, quite a story to tell as the only African-American woman in this White House as a senior staff and assistant to the president, I have seen things that made me uncomfortable, that have upset me, that have affected me deeply and emotionally, that has affected my community and my people. And when I can tell my story, it is a profound story that I know the world will want to hear," she said. http://bit.ly/2B12t5D
WHY HER DEPARTURE HAS BEEN GETTING SO MUCH ATTENTION:
American Urban Radio Networks reporter April Ryan said that Newman had been fired by White House chief of staff John Kelly and was subsequently removed from the White House grounds. Newman pushed back: "I resigned and I didn't do that in the residence, as is being reported," she said. The former contestant on "The Apprentice" denied that she tried to enter President Trump's residence and was escorted off the property, and argued that there would be pictures or video had she confronted Kelly. "If I had confronted John Kelly, who is a very formidable person, it would garner enough attention for anyone in the room to at least take a picture or a video or something," she told ABC. She also said: Newman alleged that April Ryan has a personal vendetta against her. http://bit.ly/2j1nNzt

BREAKING -- PAUL RYAN MAY RETIRE AFTER 2018 MIDTERMS

What, does Paul Ryan not love the cherry blossoms? Or is it the constant fear of a government shutdown or something?!:

Via Politico's Tim Alberta and Rachael Bade, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is considering retirement after the 2018 midterms (!) "Paul Ryan has made it known to some of his closest confidants that he plans to retire after the 2018 midterm elections, and amid swirling speculation on Capitol Hill that he could step down even sooner, his two most likely successors have been meeting with members to map out their strategies should a leadership shake-up occur." Full story -- it's worth reading: http://politi.co/2krR6f7

ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING

Once upon a time in a land far, far away -- a mouse bought a fox:

The Walt Disney Co. on Thursday announced plans to acquire most of 21st Century Fox's assets for $52.4 billion. What the deal DOESN'T include: Fox News, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1 or 2, the Big Ten Network or the Fox broadcasting network and stations. What the deal DOES include: Fox channels including FX and Nat Geo, among others. Fox's film and entertainment franchises, which includes "The Simpsons," "X-Men" and "Avatar," will be owned by Disney. http://bit.ly/2BmXkqY

Another one bites the dust:

Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) will not run for reelection, according to ABC News affiliate Crossroads Today. He will finish out his term though. What sparked this: The report comes after the House Ethics Committee announced earlier this month that it would open an investigation into Farenthold, particularly whether he sexually harassed a former staffer and retaliated against her when she complained about his conduct. Keep in mind: He has denied the allegations against him. Full back story: http://bit.ly/2C8FZ1w

WHAT HE SAID THIS MORNING:
"GOP Rep Blake Farenthold on latest allegations [as he walks out of the Capitol]: 'There have been so many I don't know what all is going on.'" Watch: http://bit.ly/2jUu1SN

LATEST WITH TAX REFORM

Continuing with the Candy Land terms, "Grandma Nut" just waved the new House–Senate tax deal through. Now to "Lollipop Woods" for a vote!: http://bit.ly/2iBkwtY:

Senate and House Republicans have struck an agreement on a sweeping tax-cut bill that, if passed, would be the first major piece of legislation signed by President Trumphttp://bit.ly/2AXMuVz

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE BILL:

Timing: GOP leaders plan to hold an initial procedural vote on Monday, a final Senate vote Tuesday and then send the measure to the House for final passage.

Two middle-class tax breaks that stayed: Senate negotiators convinced their House counterparts to preserve two important middle-class tax breaks: the deduction on student loan interest and the exclusion for tuition waivers received by graduate students.

Corporate tax rate change: The 21 percent corporate rate is slightly higher than the 20 percent rate initially favored by President Trump and House conservatives. But with a tax victory so close, they said the tweak would not be a deal breaker.

The final mortgage interest deduction: $750,000, a midpoint compromise between the Senate and House bills.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU PERSONALLY:
CNN has a tax calculator that will estimate your new taxes if this tax plan goes into effect: http://cnn.it/2yt4mVq

Israel will just have to wait:

Vice President Pence has reportedly delayed his Middle East trip by three days because of the GOP's tax legislation efforts. Now: Pence will land in Israel Wednesday of next week instead of Sunday. Why: Because of that perk of being the tie-breaking vote in the Senate. http://bit.ly/2AZtPJc

HAPPENING TODAY - NET NEUTRALITY

I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of "a massive uproar from both tech giants and internet users":

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is poised to repeal net neutrality regulations today, a move that has provoked a massive uproar from both tech giants and internet users. What's expected to happen: The FCC will likely vote along party lines later today to approve Chairman Ajit Pai's plan to scrap the Obama-era rules. What this means: The rules have required internet service providers to treat all web traffic equally. Net neutrality supporters say that the move to repeal the 2015 rules will upend the level playing field that businesses enjoy on the internet and disrupt the free flow of information online. http://bit.ly/2jUZFiO
